On 9/3/2018 at 10:46 p.m., the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office received a report of party that was occurring in the 3300 block of 430th Avenue. As a result of the investigation, the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office located an underage party at 3325 430th Avenue. On 9/2/2018 at 3:06 p.m., the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop in the 4700 block of 460th Avenue. After an investigation into the traffic stop, the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office arrested Brandon Michael Taylor, age 32 of Mallard, on charges of Violation of a Protected Order issued out of Pocahontas County.
Taylor was transported to the Palo Alto County Jail without incident where he was held until his initial appearance before a magistrate judge. On Saturday, September 1st, 2018 at 5:17 p.m. The Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office witnessed a male subject walking on the highway in the 3600 block of 450th Ave. Following an investigation, the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office arrested Kenneth Williamson (52) of Palmer, Ia for Public Intoxication, 3rd or subsequent offense, an aggravated misdemeanor.
Williamson was transported to the Palo Alto County Jail where he was booked and is awaiting his initial appearance before a judge. The Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office was assisted on the scene by the Emmetsburg Police Department. On Friday, August 31st, 2018, at 10:18 p.m., the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office located three male subjects, later identified as Caleb Gunderson (19), Nathan Harris (19), and Alex Hoffman (21) walking with open beer cans in the 300 block of South Washington Avenue, Graettinger. While attempting to identify the three male subjects, Gunderson fled on foot and was immediately arrested by the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office. Following the investigation into this incident, Nathan Harris was issued a citation for minor in possession of alcohol, which is a simple misdemeanor.
Alex Hoffman was issued a citation for consumption of alcohol in a public place, which is a simple misdemeanor. Caleb Gunderson was charged with interference with official acts, public intoxication, and minor in possession of alcohol, which are all simple misdemeanor.
Gunderson was transported, without incident, to the Palo Alto County Jail and booked in to await his initial appearance before a magistrate. On 8/31/2018, The Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office completed its investigation into an incident of illegal dumping inside the city limits of Graettinger. As a result of the investigation, the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office cited/summoned William Robert Walrath, age 44 of Graettinger, on the charges of Graettinger Municipal Code 105.8 (Open Dumping Prohibited). Walrath was released on the citation and given a court date on the non-scheduled violation. On August 27, at 10:58am, the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office investigated a two vehicle accident in the 4200-blk of 370st.
A 2004 John Deere Tractor driven by Ronald L. Soenen of Emmetsburg, was east bound and was attempting to drive around the north side of road construction barricade and collided with a 1992 Freightliner semi driven by Kyle M. Hoffman of Emmetsburg who was also east bound. Damage to the Freightliner was estimated at $5000.00 and $1000.00 to the John Deere Tractor Ronald L. Soenen and Kyle M.

The Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office was called to investigate a one vehicle accident in the 4600 block of 525th Avenue. Upon investigation it was determined that Larry Lynn Lauck, 69, of West Bend was eastbound on 475th Street in his 1997 Ford F-150 when he suffered a medical issue. The Ford left the roadway entering the north ditch. The Ford left the ditch and entered a corn field. The Ford continued east through the field until coming upon 525th Avenue. The Ford crossed over 525th Avenue and entered a bean field, still eastbound. The Ford veered north continuing through the bean field as the Ford continued northbound it drove through a corn field before coming to rest in a bean field.
Total damage to the crops is estimated at $500.00. There was no damage to the Ford. Lauck was transported to Palo Alto County Hospital by ambulance for further evaluation but was uninjured in the accident. The Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office was assisted on scene by the West Bend Police Department and Palo Alto County Ambulance Service. On 8/30/2018 at 12:59 a.m., the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office investigated a suspicious vehicle parked at 4700 Brushy Bayou.
After an investigation into the incident, the Palo Alto County Sheriff’ s Office arrested James William Knight IV, age 28 of Emmetsburg, on the charges of Possession of a Controlled Substance (Marijuana 1st Offense), a serious misdemeanor and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, a simple misdemeanor. Knight was transported to the Palo Alto County Jail without incident and held until his initial appearance before a magistrate judge. On August 28, 2018, the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office executed a traffic stop in the 4000 Block of 360th Street near Emmetsburg, on a 1996 Oldsmobile Delta 88, driven by Justin Rink (31) of Marathon, Iowa. The Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office discovered Rink’s privilege to operate a motor vehicle in the State of Iowa was revoked due to a prior operating while intoxicated charge. The Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office arrested Rink for driving while license denied or revoked, a serious misdemeanor. Rink was placed in the Palo Alto County Jail to await an appearance in front of a judge.
